Awards

A Service Decoration means any order, medal, badge, clasp, bar or other insignia that was or may be conferred for valour, distinguished conduct or service, long service, good conduct, devotion to duty, efficiency, participation in a campaign or any other operation or for any other reason on a member of the Police Force or of any Armed force.

Ministry of Defence invites recommendations twice in a year from the Armed Forces and Union Ministry of Home Affairs for Gallantry awards. Recommendations are invited normally in the month of August for the awards to be announced on the occasion of the Republic Day and in the month of March for the awards to be announced on the occasion of the Independence Day. Recommendations in respect of civilian citizens (other than Defence personnel) are received from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). MHA calls for recommendations (in respect of civilians) from all State/UT Governments, Central Ministries/ Departments, Central Armed Police Forces and Railway Protection Force etc.

Ashok Chakra

Ashok Chakra

Awarded for most conspicuous bravery, or some act of daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice otherwise than in the face of the enemy.  The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

Kirti Chakra

KIRTI CHAKRA

Awarded for conspicuous gallantry otherwise than in the face of the enemy. The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

Veer Chakra

VIR CHAKRA

For acts of gallantry in the presence of the enemy, whether of land or at sea or in the air. The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

Shaurya Chakra

SHAURYA CHAKRA

Awarded for gallantry otherwise than in the face of the enemy. The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

PPMG

PPMG (President Police Medal for Gallantry)

Awarded to members of a recognized police force, the Central Intelligence Bureau, or an organized fire service who have performed services of conspicuous gallantry.For subsequent acts of gallantry, a bar may be awarded.

PMG (Police Medal for Gallantry)

Awarded to members of a recognized police force, the Central Intelligence Bureau, or an organized fire service who have performed services of conspicuous gallantry. For subsequent acts of gallantry, a bar may be awarded.

PPMS

PPMS (President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service)

All Police personnel in the country with at least 15 years of Meritorious service are eligible for this award.

PPMDS

PPMDS (President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service)

All police personnel in the country with at least 21 years of service are eligible for this award. Prolonged service, but only when distinguished by very exceptional ability and merit. Must have put in 5 years after being awarded with President Police Medal for Meritorious service.
