Brief of Incident

On 16th Oct’2017 at about 0140 hrs while enrouting towards BOP NC Nagar (Tripura Frontier), Shri Dipak Kumar Mandal, Second-in-command/ Officiating Commandant, 145 Bn BSF found 20-25 cattle smugglers, armed with Dah/stones, pushing 20-25 cattle to Bangladesh side. Despite being outnumbered, Officer alongwith his guard and driver engaged the smugglers boldly but suddenly one of the smugglers hit him with his vehicle from back side.  The officer sustained critical injury and was immediately evacuated by air to Medica Super Speciality Hospital, Kolkata on the same day but unfortunately, succumbed to injuries on 20th Oct’2017 and attained martyrdom.
